Navelina Orangesbelong to the family of fruits of the citrus species Citrus Sinensis in the family Rutaceae. The fruit is quite big and of an excellent quality. It is a slightly oval shaped orange with an intense orange colour. It has a high juice content and is sweet. They are primarily grown for human consumption. Navelina Oranges will protect you against winter colds.

The VillageThe village, is in the municipality of Agrinio, Aetoloacarnania. It is located at an altitude of 30 meters on the west side of the valley of Agrinio, near the banks of the Achelous River, 10 km west of the city of Agrinio and at a distance of 35 km. from Messolonghi. The municipal district of Kalivia has a total area of 33,651 acres of lowland.
The RegionMountains dominate the north, northeast, west and southeast, especially the Acarnanian Mountains. The longest and main river is the Acheloos, which ends as a delta in wetlands to the southwest on a rich fertile valley. Almost all the land of Kalivia is a creation of the debris deposits that the river Achelous has brought in the area over time.
The RiverAchelous is the 2nd longest river in Greece & the river with the most water. It stems from the Pindos mountains and after a 220 km route, it flows into the Ionian sea. In its crossing, it successively fills with it’s waters 3 artificial lakes & irrigates the entire fertile valley of Agrinio. The annual volume of water arriving into the Sea is 4,030 million m3.
TraditionIn the village of Kalivia, people have been cultivating Citrus products for more than 300 years.They mostly grow oranges, lemons, mandarins, sour oranges and citrons. There are estimated to be more than 10,000 acres planted with citrus trees. The total annual orange production is estimated to more than 2,000 thousand metric tons.
Orange Fruit Benefits
Oranges are rich in citrus limonoids, proven to help fight a number of varieties of cancer including that of the skin, lung, breast, stomach and colon.
Drinking orange juice regularly prevents kidney diseases and reduces the risk of kidney stones. Note: drink juice in moderate amounts. The high sugar content of fruit juices can cause tooth decay and the high acid content can wear away enamel if consumed in excess.

Citrus sinensis ‘Navelina’:
This variety of orange was given the name ‘Navel’ because of the way in which it grows – is has a second fruit that grows at the apex and makes the orange a not quite round shape – looking like a human navel! Navelina is very closely related!
